Frequently Asked Questions

1.     What does the INSCYD test involve?

The INSCYD test is completed via 4 MAX effort tests: 20 seconds, and 3, 6, and 12 minutes in duration.

2.     I don’t have a power meter, can I still do the INSCYD test?

The INSCYD test requires the athlete to use a power meter. We can design a personalised training plan based on your heart rate data, but it will not be possible to do the INSCYD test without a power meter.

3.     How will the INSCYD test results help me improve my cycling performance?

The INSCYD test provides you with your training zones, as well as your VO2 Max and your VLamax (the strength of you aerobic and anaerobic systems). Knowing this will allow you to adjust your training programme in order to improve any weak areas.

4.     I am only interested in my anaerobic threshold, will the INSCYD test provide me with this information?

Your anaerobic threshold is a result of your VO2 Max and your VLamax. Because the INSCYD test measures both, the report will provide you with a figure for your anaerobic threshold, in the context of the strength of your aerobic and anaerobic systems. You will also learn what your anaerobic threshold is as a percentage of your VO2 Max. All this information will provide you with the necessary details to increase your anaerobic threshold in the more efficient way possible.

5.     I don’t race, is there any point in me doing the INSCYD test?

The INSCYD test is for anyone who is interested in improving their cycling performance. If you train with the aim of getting faster, the INSCYD test is for you! The INSCYD report provides a wealth of information that can be used to help you improve your training and performance.

6.     My priority is losing weight, how will the INSCYD test help me?

The INSCYD test provides you with information of the amount of fat and carbohydrates your body is using as fuel at different intensities. Your FATMAX zone is the power range at which your body is burning the greatest proportion of fat as fuel. This information can be used with a sports nutritionist to focus your training and fuelling.

7.     I don’t live in Europe, can I still do the test?

Yes! The INSCYD test can be done remotely from anywhere in the world. We can build you a personalised training plan that you can follow irrespective of where you live. We will take into account your local climate and training needs when we build your training plan.

8.     Can I do the INSCYD test indoors on a turbo trainer?

Yes! The INSCYD test is mostly easily done on a smart trainer, but it can also be done on resistance rollers.
